Castro Valley Vibe’s Lifestyle Magazine draws inspiration from my father, John Poulos, who created ‘Entertainment East Magazine’—a Nightlife Guide for the East Bay & 'Annual Nightlife Awards’ in the 1960s. These awards honored the unsung heroes musicians, entertainers. bars, Restaurants, purveyors and nightlife people.
As a child, I helped produce the magazine, my first job was stapling them togather, eventually making printer plates, printing, designing, developing photography and ads. We went to a lot of fancy dinners and met chefs servers and such witnessing the love, respect and care my dad had for everyone.
It was likely one of the first major 'award ceremonies' focusing on 'behind-the-scenes people in the service area' .I love how he honored servers and bartenders. Castro Valley Vibe is an expanded digital evolution of that magazine, enhanced with advanced technology. My version of the 'Nightlife Awards' is the “Spirit of the People Awards” It's not about being the best or most popular; it's about being genuine and spreading good vibes along with being the best.
The pandemic postponed our 'celebration' efforts, but the list of honors has continued since 2019.
Our first honors are awarded based on community love and support on our posts, rave reviews, my personal experiences, and other factors. The 'most views' or followers does not equal the most love. It’s not something to be voted on; however, we can’t know everyone and their are 100's of good deeds, so community help is welcome. There are many hidden gems and whimsical places in Castro Valley. Who knew there was a huge ice skating rink here?!
In this awards section, you will find the best of the best: Castro Valley Vibe - Spirit of the People Awards. If you are listed, congratulations—you have been recognized as a valued and appreciated member of the community.
Sincerely, Stacy Poulos, Publisher

Castro Valley Vibe couldn't have made it without the little angels behind the scenes. One standout is Michael Halloran, who tirelessly assisted with tasks, including setting up TVs and other projects, and most importantly, being a positive influence along the way. For his unwavering support and dedication, Michael Halloran is recognized as the Person of the Year.

I'm not sure Robert Pace knew what he was getting into when I asked him to support CVVibe, but he did it enthusiastically and provided financial backing to get it off the ground. It was fun turning an amateur into a co-host for CVVibe. He helped keep the community informed, going the extra mile to boost the videos we created. Since he wasn't a professional, his willingness to have fun with it made people feel more relaxed and open. I'm forever grateful for his relentless support. Castro Valley 'vibe' is about good vibes of the people. You will rarely see a major corporation on here due to the fact corporations rarely allow there employees speak for them. Hardly ever!
You are welcome to bring to our attention members of the community you believe should be recognized. We will investigate. We have a year to find our next honorees.
As a business we also look into yelp and the BBB to ensure we are not recognizing people who don't take care of their people.
